Benilloba

Benilloba is a Spanish municipality of the Valencian Community, belonging to the province of Alicante in the county of Cocentaina County. Benilloba is located between the Serreta de Alcoy and the Sierra Serrella. It is the perfect place for hiking or caving, since in the municipality of Benilloba there is the Aitana peak, which with 1558 meters is the highest in Alicante.

Benilloba is a town dedicated to the textile industry, a typical and traditional industrial sector in the Alcoià-Comtat area. This has allowed it to stop the migratory flow that is affecting the rest of the small towns in the region. For all these reasons, Benilloba is one of the most important in the area, medium in size with long and winding streets. In Muslim times it was a farmhouse of which, nowadays, no traces remain.

In the late medieval struggles between the Kingdoms of Castile and Aragon he took part by arresting the troops of the Castilian king Pedro I El Cruel. Later it belonged to the Counts of Aranda and; later, to those of Revillagigedo whose palace is still preserved. It is located on the road that leads from Alcoy to Callosa d´ En Sarrià 10 km. de Alcoy, It is located next to the Frainos River, between the Serreta de Alcoy and the Sierra Serrella. 64 km. from Alicante and 53 from Benidorm.
